Is FRED 911 a monthly service that I have to keep paying for?
No. FRED 911 is a device you purchase. It is NOT a monthly monitoring service! There are no monthly fees or contracts to sign. It uses the 911 service you already pay for in your monthly phone bill. FRED 911 eliminates the need for expensive monitoring services.

How do I install my FRED 911?
FRED 911 is simple to install. Just plug it into any standard phone jack.

What is the difference beween standard 911 and enhanced 911?
Enhanced 911 displays the name, address, and phone number of each call. In areas with standard 911 (less than 1% of all 911 systems), you must tell the operator where to send help.

What is the range of the pendant?
The average range is 150 feet. This can vary depending on the environment in which it is used. It can activate the emergency dialer from down the hall, through walls, and around corners.

What happens if I can't speak or I'm more than 60 feet from the FRED 911 base unit?
Most communities have a policy to respond to ALL 911 calls. In areas with enhanced 911, your name, address, and phone number are displayed on the operator's computer screen and police will be dispatched to investigate. Policies may vary; call your 911 center for details on local procedures.

Do I have to pick up the phone to use FRED 911?
No. Just press the button and help is on the way. The 911 operator can hear you speak and you can hear them up to 60 feet from the base unit. FRED 911 offers "Hands-Free" emergency communications.

What if my area does not have 911?
FRED 911 works by dialing 911. If your community doesn't have 911 service, FRED 911 will not work.

Is it legal to use FRED 911?
Yes. FRED 911 is approved for use by the FCC. There are no known restrictions on using FRED 911. NOTE: 45 States prohibit automatic dialers that play recorded messages. Because FRED 911 lets you talk to 911, such laws do not apply.

How do I check FRED 911 to make sure it is working?
First - call a friend and both of you listen while you activate FRED 911. Now, hang up your phone and move around the room while you talk with your friend. When done, unplug FRED 911, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in. Consult the manual for detailed explanations on testing your FRED 911 unit.

What would happen if my remote got wet?
The FRED 911 remote pendant is water resistant. You can wear it in the shower and the bathtub.

Can I get a second remote pendant for my kids or spouse?
Yes. The price of an additional pendant is only $39.95 plus $4.00 shipping and handling.

What if there is a power failure?
FRED 911 uses battery power so it works, even in a blackout.

What happens if I move or go on vacation?
You own FRED 911 for life, just take it with you, and plug it in at your new location. (Be sure to check that your new location has 911 emergency service).

Are there any other costs involved?
Only changing batteries when they get weak.

How often do I have to change batteries?
Battery life depends on use. We recommend changing the battery in the base unit every six months, when you change the 9v in your smoke detectors. The watch cells in the pendant can last for two years or more.
